StarkWare tests quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction on mainnet

StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy has tested an experimental quantum-resistant transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet, in what the company described as the first transaction of its kind. According to StarkWare, the transaction was confirmed Wednesday in Bitcoin block 964,199. Onchain data shows that it spent a 10,000-satoshi output protected by Levys Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB) scheme, with MARA Pool mining the block after receiving the transaction through its Slipstream service. Levys paper and code repository said QSB combines hash-based one-time signatures with computational searches that bind an authorization to a specific transaction. The construction is intended to prevent forgery even if a quantum computer breaks the elliptic-curve cryptography Bitcoin uses. The test moves Levy‘s April proposal from theory to an onchain demonstration, showing that Bitcoin’s existing consensus rules can accommodate one form of quantum-resistant spending without a protocol change. Quantum-resistant Bitcoin method remains costly In March, Google researchers estimated that a sufficiently capable quantum computer could theoretically derive a Bitcoin private key nine to 12 minutes after its public key becomes visible. Google said that could allow an attacker to replace a pending transaction during Bitcoins confirmation window. Levy then introduced QSB in April, estimating at the time that generating a transaction would require between $75 and

Connecticut sues Kalshi over unlicensed sports event contracts

Connecticut has sued Kalshi and asked a court to block the prediction market platform from offering sports event contracts that state officials classify as unlicensed sports wagering. The Connecticut Attorney Generals Office said Wednesday that Attorney General William Tong, Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli, and Governor Ned Lamont are seeking an injunction requiring Kalshi to stop offering the contracts in the state. Connecticut officials have maintained that contracts tied to the outcome of sporting events fall under state gambling laws even though Kalshi operates as a federally regulated derivatives exchange. The lawsuit extends a dispute that began in December 2025 and is now being litigated alongside separate federal proceedings involving the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. “Sports event contracts are no different than sports betting and are not magically shielded by federal law from Connecticuts commonsense consumer protection laws,” Tong said. State officials said Kalshi has continued offering sports markets without holding the licenses required of Connecticut sportsbook operators. The state legalized sports wagering in 2021 through a system that subjects licensed operators to consumer protection, age verification and other regulatory requirements. Lamont said prediction market operators should not be allowed to operate outside the regulatory structure established for licensed sportsbooks. “When we legalized

RLUSD crosses $2 billion as XRPL supply nears $1B

Ripple said on Aug. 25 that its RLUSD stablecoin crossed $2 billion in market capitalization during the previous week, less than two years after its December 2024 launch. SummaryRLUSD crossed $2 billion in market value less than two years after its global launch.Nearly $1 billion of RLUSD was issued on XRP Ledger, according to Ripples latest update.Ethereum held slightly more RLUSD than XRP Ledger when the stablecoin passed the milestone overall.Standard Custody issues RLUSD under New York oversight and maintains segregated reserve accounts for holders.Ripple publicly reported $1.98 billion in reserves against $1.87 billion circulating on August 20, 2026. Close to $1 billion of the circulating supply had been issued on the XRP Ledger, according to Ripple‘s official statement. CoinGecko subsequently placed RLUSD’s market capitalization at approximately $2.11 billion, based on a circulating supply of about 2.1 billion tokens. Because RLUSD seeks to maintain a $1 price, its market capitalization closely tracks its circulating token supply. The milestone therefore reflects additional issuance rather than price appreciation. RLUSD crossed $2B in market cap last week, with close to $1B issued on the XRP Ledger. ???? BlackRock Cuts IBIT In-Kind Bitcoin Minimum 96% to $1 Million

Market NewsIBITs in-kind conversion threshold has been reduced by BlackRock from $25 million to $1 million. This move enhances the Bitcoin ETF framework but does not include direct share-to-Bitcoin conversion under retail brokerage access. BlackRock has lowered the minimum amount required for Bitcoin-to-IBIT conversion to $1 million. This is a 96% decrease from the previous threshold of $25 million. The move may open up opportunities for qualified individuals and institutions that wish to participate in the program, but it will not affect regular IBIT trading via brokers. With in-kind creation and redemption, investors get to convert their Bitcoin to the ETF format via authorized intermediaries rather than converting their BTC to cash first. According to BlackRocks digital assets chief Robbie Mitchnick, IBIT has settled transactions worth more than $5 billion using Bitcoin swaps. BlackRock has now done $5b of tax deferred bitcoin to ETF swaps, which can now be done for as little as $1mil.. “Its going to keep growing because we keep expanding the access,” said Robbie Mitchnick, head of digital assets at BlackRock. Bitcoins bull case grows as U.S. debt tops $40T

Bitcoins long-term investment case is gaining support from rising U.S. debt and persistent fiscal deficits, according to BlackRock global head of digital assets Robbie Mitchnick. Mitchnick said in an Aug. 26 interview that renewed concern about government borrowing was leading some investors to consider assets outside the sovereign monetary system. U.S. gross federal debt reached approximately $40.05 trillion on Aug. 18, according to the Treasury Departments dataset. Bitcoin benefits when fiscal concerns return Mitchnick argued that government debt and budget deficits are becoming major market concerns. Investors worried about the purchasing power of fiat currencies may respond by increasing exposure to scarce assets. “Debt and deficit levels are a major concern for markets,” Mitchnick said, adding that renewed attention to those risks could support “assets like Bitcoin and gold.” His remarks present an investment thesis rather than proof that federal borrowing caused Bitcoins latest rally. Bitcoin also benefited from ETF inflows, short covering, a weaker dollar and changes in Treasury bond markets. The cryptocurrency posted its strongest three-day advance since 2023 during the previous week. Bitcoin rose from the low-$60,000 range to nearly $80,000 before giving back part of those gains. Stocks struggled and bond trading became volatile during part of the same period. Mitchnick said Bitcoins

Coinbase, Better launch Bitcoin-backed home loans

Coinbase and Better Mortgage have made a Bitcoin-backed mortgage product generally available to qualified US homebuyers, allowing them to secure a down payment loan without selling their BTC. Bitcoin-backed home loans use a two-loan structure Better Mortgage and Coinbase announced the rollout on Aug. 26, opening the product after testing it with a limited group of borrowers. Better originates and services the loans, while Coinbase provides the infrastructure used to transfer and hold the Bitcoin collateral. Rather than creating one mortgage secured partly by a home and partly by cryptocurrency, the companies have divided the financing into two loans. One is a standard first-lien mortgage designed to meet Fannie Mae‘s conforming guidelines. A separate loan, secured by the borrower’s Bitcoin, supplies the cash needed for the down payment. Both loans carry the same interest rate and amortization period, according to the Coinbase Help Center. Borrowers make one combined monthly payment instead of servicing the mortgage and down payment loan separately. To qualify, applicants must pledge BTC worth at least 250% of the loan down payment. Someone seeking $100,000 for a down payment would therefore need to provide Bitcoin valued at no less than $250,000 when the collateral is posted. Following approval by Better, the borrower authorizes

Smart AI deposits could soon force banks to raise loan rates for everyday borrowers

AI-directed bank accounts could move deposits rapidly among banks, weakening a funding advantage that helps finance long-term credit, according to a Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas analysis published Aug. 25. Although customers can withdraw demand deposits at any time, balances tend to remain at banks for years, and deposit rates usually rise by less than market rates. That makes deposits behave partly like long-duration funding. The Dallas Fed approximates their effective duration as weighted average life multiplied by one minus the deposit beta, which measures how responsive deposit rates are to short-term rates. Instant settlement would let yield-sensitive customers switch banks quickly, while programmable rules and agentic AI could automate the move. In June 2026, The Clearing House announced an initiative to develop 24/7, interoperable tokenized commercial-bank money, including automated and agentic-commerce uses. Using commercial-bank balance sheets as of July 15 and its own duration assumptions, the Dallas Fed estimated about $7 trillion of asset-side interest-rate exposure in 10-year equivalents. Roughly $5.84 trillion was supported by the duration characteristics of deposits other than large time deposits. In plain terms, those stable funding characteristics help banks hold assets whose values are sensitive to interest-rate changes. In one sensitivity case, what the authors describe as a 10% increase

Bitcoin mines first quantum-safe mainnet transaction: StarkWare

Bitcoin confirmed the first mainnet transaction using researcher Avihu Levys Quantum-Safe Bitcoin method on Aug. 26, according to StarkWare. The mined transaction demonstrated that QSB can operate under Bitcoins existing consensus rules. It did not require new opcodes, a soft fork or changes by Bitcoin nodes. Bitcoin transaction moves security toward hashes Standard Bitcoin transactions rely on signatures using elliptic-curve cryptography. A sufficiently powerful fault-tolerant quantum computer running Shors algorithm could theoretically calculate a private key from its exposed public key. QSB changes the security assumptions for a particular output. It uses hash-based commitments and a hash-to-signature puzzle rather than depending on the difficulty of solving an elliptic-curve discrete logarithm. The published implementation estimates approximately 118-bit second-preimage resistance against an attacker using Shor’s algorithm. QSB does not use StarkWares STARK proving technology. However, both approaches depend heavily on hash functions. As previously reported, zk-STARKs avoid elliptic-curve

Havenex seeks Austrian approval as Series A nears close

Havenex, an Austrian company advised by Sui co-founder Kostas “Kryptos” Chalkias, said on Aug. 26 that its Series A financing round was nearing completion as it pursued regulatory authorization. Chalkias announced the project through an X post. He described Havenex as infrastructure for financial institutions offering digital and traditional financial assets. The company has not disclosed the rounds size, participating investors, valuation or expected closing date. Havenex awaits Austrian regulatory authorization Havenex‘s website says the platform is undergoing authorization with Austria’s Financial Market Authority. The company also states that it cannot provide regulated services before receiving approval. That distinction means Havenex should not yet be described as a licensed exchange. No public authorization number or regulatory approval appears on its website. Chalkias said the company had applied for every required license and some additional permissions, but he did not identify individual license categories. Havenex AG lists a registered address in Vienna and Austrian company registration number FN 673083d. Its public disclosures identify Gregorios Siourounis as the management board member. Chalkias, Adeniyi Abiodun and Petros Pyloridis sit on the supervisory board. The company describes its intended customers as professional and institutional clients. Its approval process will determine which services it can provide, the assets it can support
