On social media, Hansen, who had warned about the state of stablecoins under the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework, declared that if taxpayers cannot provide this proof, the agency will assume the cryptocurrency purchases were executed after December 31, 2026, with taxes being calculated over 50% of the sales proceeds. Bitcoin Private Transfers With Shielded Bitcoin Protocol

A new research paper is proposing something Bitcoin has never officially had: a way to send bitcoin without broadcasting who paid whom or how much changed hands. The design, published by researchers at Alloc Init and detailed in a paper titled “Shielded Bitcoin: Private Transfers on Bitcoin L1,” aims to bring Bitcoin private transfersto the networks base layer without a soft fork, without a new blockchain, and without handing custody to any middleman. Key takeawaysShielded Bitcoin is a metaprotocol that hides transfer amounts and counterparties on Bitcoin Layer 1, requiring no soft fork or separate blockchain.Transfers rely on encrypted notes, nullifiers and zero-knowledge proofs to stop double-spending while keeping details private. No trusted operator or custodian ever holds users‘ funds; indexers verify transfers but cannot spend anyone’s bitcoin.Read-only keys allow selective disclosure to auditors or counterparties without granting spending power.Entry and exit points, handled through a mechanism called PIPEs, remain observable, which the researchers say could still leak some metadata. Introducing Shielded Bitcoin for Private Transfers on Bitcoin Layer 1 Bitcoins public ledger is both its strength and its weakness. Every transaction is verifiable by anyone, but that same transparency means amounts, timing and wallet links sit in plain view forever. For treasuries, trading

Circle and Tether freeze $318K of Bitget hack funds as $387.5M slips away

On Friday (September 25), Circle and Tether stopped nearly $318,000 in stablecoins related to the hack of the Bitget exchange, but by then most of the $387.5 million stolen in the hack had already left. This shows the usefulness, as well as the limits of asset freezes: they only work until the attackers transfer the money. The USDC terms of Circle allow the company to restrict transfers from certain addresses. Tether has also used its own controls when working with authorities. However, neither firm can freeze Ether. After stolen assets are turned into ETH, it will be impossible to freeze it. What issuers can and cannot freeze Decrypt disclosed that Circle banned an address, denoted “Bitget Exploiter 8” on Etherscan at 05:00 UTC on Friday. Tether included the wallet in its USDT blacklist approximately seven hours later. In total, they froze around 99,990 USDC and 218,023 USDT. The wallet still had nearly 170 ETH that could still be accessed. Blockchain trackers cited by Decrypt said other addresses controlled by the same hacker held another 63,000+ ETH. The suspect seemed to act fast, converting tokens that could be frozen into ETH before others could take further action. Yuri Cortez | Afp | Getty Images Rob Gehring, the head of Monster Energy‘s Americas business, will leave to run Coca-Cola’s North America unit, the companies said Friday. He will take over the position on Dec. 1. The move comes as Coke tries to maintain growth while U.S. consumers cut back on spending in the face of higher gas and grocery prices. Despite those dynamics, the beverage giant posted net sales growth of 7% in the second quarter, as volume — a key measure of demand — rose 3% in North America. Though Monster Energy parent Monster Beverage is considerably smaller than Coke, its sales have soared in part due to innovation in the energy drink space. The company reported net sales growth of 20% in its second quarter. Coke is also investing in developing new beverages beyond its core soda offerings, including refreshers and dirty sodas. Gehring, 59, took on his previous role at Monster in February after serving as chief growth officer since 2024. In a press release, Coke said he was “part of the leadership team that drove the companys
