Arthur Hayes Says Treasury Buybacks Are Fueling a Bitcoin Bull Market

TLDRArthur Hayes says expanded US Treasury bond buybacks are behind Bitcoins recent surgeBitcoin jumped from around $64,000 to above $80,000 after the August 19 buyback announcementTreasury will raise buyback limits to at least $4 billion per operation starting September 9US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $517 million on August 19, the highest daily inflow since MayHayes says his fund has moved to maximum risk exposure in Bitcoin and Ether Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, published an essay on August 25 saying Bitcoin has entered a new bull market. He ties this directly to a US Treasury decision to expand its bond buyback program. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on August 19 that buyback limits would at least double. The cap per operation will rise from $2 billion to at least $4 billion between September 9 and November 4. Hayes argues that buying older, long dated bonds pushes their prices up and yields down. Lower yields, he says, make assets like Bitcoin look more attractive to investors. “Same Same But Different” is an essay on why you should back up the truck and buy crypto with both hands. MEXC Review 2026: Fees, Token Access and Warnings

MEXC is a large international cryptocurrency exchange known for early token listings, a very broad altcoin catalogue and unusually low trading fees. CoinMarketCap ranked it ninth among spot exchanges when checked in August 2026. Those strengths come with important trade-offs. MEXC has received regulatory warnings from authorities including Hong Kongs Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), while its large number of small-cap markets creates additional liquidity, delisting and token-quality risks. Our assessment: MEXC can be useful for experienced traders seeking early access to altcoins. It is less suitable for users who prioritize local regulatory protection, simple custody or conservative trading products.MEXC at a glanceCategoryAssessmentFounded2018Main strengthEarly listings and broad token accessStandard spot feeAround 0% maker / 0.05% taker, subject to region and promotionsProof of reservesYesLatest BTC reserve ratio288% in August 2026Hong Kong statusSFC warning / not licensedUK statusFCA warning / not authorizedMain risksRegulatory status, small-cap liquidity, delistings and derivativesToken access and product range MEXC launched in 2018 and has built much of its market position around listing cryptocurrencies quickly. Profit Connect owner convicted over $24M AI crypto fraud scheme

A federal jury convicted Profit Connect owner Brent C. Kovar on 15 fraud and money-laundering counts after prosecutors said he obtained $24 million from at least 400 investors through false claims about an AI-powered crypto business. The Justice Department said the verdict followed a nine-day trial, with jurors finding Kovar guilty of 11 counts of wire fraud, two counts of mail fraud, and two counts of money laundering. The Justice Department placed the conduct between late 2017 and July 2021, when Kovar marketed Profit Connect as a profitable technology business capable of generating the promised returns. Kovar told investors that Profit Connect used AI software on a supercomputer to mine crypto and verify crypto transactions, according to the Justice Department. He represented the company as profitable, promised fixed returns of 15% to 30% APR and offered a 100% money-back guarantee. He also claimed Profit Connect held hundreds of millions of dollars in crypto reserves. Prosecutors said the company was unprofitable, held no reserves, and lacked a legitimate source for the promised returns or guarantee. The Justice Department said Kovar instead used investor money to operate Profit Connect, buy gifts for employees, purchase a house for himself, and repay investors, with those repayments presented as proceeds

KuCoin Review 2026: DOJ Case, Fees and Security Risks

KuCoin is a major cryptocurrency exchange known for its broad altcoin selection, trading bots and derivatives. Its low trading fees and access to smaller tokens remain competitive, but two events are essential to any 2026 assessment: KuCoins 2025 U.S. criminal guilty plea and its major 2020 security breach. This KuCoin review finds a feature-rich exchange that may suit experienced users in supported jurisdictions. However, its regulatory history and centralized custody risk make it less suitable for users seeking strong domestic regulatory protection.KuCoin at a glanceCategoryAssessmentFounded2017Main strengthAltcoin selection and trading toolsStandard Class A spot fee0.10% maker / 0.10% takerHigher spot fee classesUp to 0.30% at VIP 0Proof of reservesYesMajor security incident2020 hot-wallet hackMajor regulatory event2025 U.S. guilty pleaU.S. accessKuCoin agreed to exit the U.S. market for at least two yearsMain risksRegulatory history, custody, altcoin liquidity and derivatives riskAltcoins, products and fees KuCoin launched in 2017 and built much of its reputation around listing a large number of cryptocurrencies. Gate Review 2026: Altcoins, Fees, Reserves and Risks

Gate, formerly known as Gate.io, is one of the longest-running major cryptocurrency exchanges and remains particularly notable for its large altcoin catalogue. Founded in 2013, the platform has built its reputation around listing emerging and small-cap tokens earlier than many larger competitors. That breadth is Gates main advantage—and one of its main risks. In CoinMarketCaps spot-exchange ranking checked on August 26, 2026, Gate ranked seventh globally. The platform offers spot trading alongside derivatives, trading bots, copy trading, token launches and other crypto products, although availability varies by jurisdiction. Our assessment: Gate is most useful for experienced traders who want access to a wide range of altcoins and understand how to evaluate liquidity, token contracts and withdrawal networks. It is less suitable for beginners who want a simple fiat-to-crypto experience or who may assume that an exchange listing means a token has been fully vetted.Gate at a glanceCategoryAssessmentFounded2013Current brandGate / Gate.comPrevious namesBter, Gate.ioMain strengthLarge altcoin selection and early listingsStandard spot feeAround 0.10% maker / 0.10% taker at VIP 0 on the international platformProof of reservesYesLatest reported overall reserve ratio117% as of July 27, 2026EU regulationMiCA CASP + PSD2-related Financial Institution authorization in MaltaU.S. serviceSeparate Gate US entity; state availability variesMain risksSmall-cap token quality, liquidity,

XRP ETF filing raises questions over Ripple escrow

Cryptex Finance filed an amended registration statement on Aug. 24 for its proposed Digital Market Cap ETF, including XRP at a 4.88% fund weighting. The document also claims Ripple could release additional XRP from escrow if Congress passes the CLARITY Act. The wording attracted attention because Ripple has not publicly confirmed such a plan. The document is a disclosure prepared by Cryptex and filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. It does not represent an SEC finding or an announcement from Ripple. Cryptex included the XRP escrow claim in its filing The amended S-1 filing states that Ripple historically returns 60% to 80% of its monthly XRP releases to escrow. It then makes a broader claim about future distributions. “The company has indicated that, if regulatory clarity is established … it may release additional XRP from escrow to support on-ledger liquidity in stablecoin and FX pairs.” The statement does not identify its source. It also does not provide a link, date or named Ripple representative. Attorney Bill Morgan questioned where Cryptex obtained the information, saying he did not recall Ripple announcing that intention. Bitget Review 2026: Copy Trading, Fees and Risks

Bitget Review 2026: Copy Trading, Fees and Risks Bitget is best known for copy trading and crypto derivatives, although its spot exchange has grown into a large standalone market. It occupied sixth place in the CoinMarketCap spot snapshot used for this series on August 14, 2026. The exchange offers competitive fees, many tokens and a visible protection fund, but users must understand that copying another trader does not remove leverage or liquidation risk. This Bitget review finds a feature-rich venue for traders in supported jurisdictions. Its strongest differentiators are integrated copy trading, trading bots and monthly reserve reporting. Its weaknesses are a complex offshore entity structure, regional exclusions and product designs that can encourage inexperienced users to take futures risk.Company and account entity Bitget launched in 2018 and operates internationally through legal entities disclosed according to customer location. Its global terms and regional services are not interchangeable. A registration held by one Bitget affiliate does not grant every other affiliate permission to provide derivatives or custody worldwide. Residents should open the terms after selecting their real country, record the contracting company and confirm it against the relevant regulator. United States access is restricted, and other jurisdictions limit futures, earn products or specific tokens. Bitgets broad

Bitcoin traders hedged $60k and loaded up above $78k leaving the low $70k exposed

Bitcoins end-of-September options expiry holds 130,670 BTC of open interest, compared with 79,003 BTC for August, a headline gap large enough to look like traders are loading up before the Federal Reserves Sept. 16 decision. September and December are the two quarterly expiries in Bitcoin options, and together they hold 59.3% of all open interest, since traders often roll positions into them. Russian telecom giants prepare to accept digital ruble payments from Sept. 1

Russias MTS, Rostelecom and MegaFon have prepared to accept digital ruble payments from Sept. 1 as Russia begins the first mandatory stage of its nationwide central bank digital currency rollout. Vedomosti reported that the three major telecommunications operators are preparing their payment systems for the launch, with MTS offering digital ruble transactions across services connected to MTS Pay while Rostelecom and MegaFon work on their own integrations. MTS plans to make the payment option available without restricting it to particular products or services. Customers will initially be able to use digital rubles through the My MTS mobile app and the companys online store, while other services using the MTS Pay payment module can also support the option. For customers, the process will work much like Russia‘s Faster Payments System. A user with a digital ruble account can select the digital ruble at checkout, choose a participating bank and approve the transaction through the bank’s interface, according to MTS. The digital ruble account itself is held on the Bank of Russias platform, with commercial banks providing customers access through their apps. The central bank issues the CBDC and operates the underlying platform, while one digital ruble remains equal in value to one conventional ruble. Rostelecom will
