Ethereum research group Ethlabs has urged core developers to prioritize censorship resistance, faster blocks, native account abstraction and continued Layer 1 scaling for Hegotá, Ethereums planned upgrade after Glamsterdam.

Ethlabs describes itself as an independent nonprofit R&D lab focused on Ethereum and ETH. Several team members also co-author proposals the organization supports, a relationship Ethlabs disclosed when publishing its rankings.

Ethereum Hegotá narrows 2027 upgrade proposals
The document remains a recommendation rather than an Ethereum governance decision. The official Hegotá meta currently lists EIP-7805, or FOCIL, as the only feature scheduled for inclusion. EIP-8141 Frame Transactions is considered for inclusion, while dozens of others remain proposals.

FOCIL and faster slots top Ethlabs Hegotá priorities
FOCIL uses validator-created inclusion lists to make it harder for specialized block builders to omit valid transactions. Ethlabs strongly supports the feature, which has already secured the headliner position. Its official specification says attesters would only support blocks satisfying the relevant inclusion-list conditions.
Ethlabs also placed EIP-8198 Quick Slots in its highest tier. It wants Ethereum to start moving away from 12-second slots during Hegotá. The current proposal uses eight seconds as a placeholder and says the exact target may change. Ethlabs argues Ethereum could “land 10 seconds in ~a year in Hegotá.” That is a forward-looking recommendation, not an agreed Hegotá parameter.
Keeping 32 slots per epoch under the current draft would also shorten epoch duration and reduce time to finality if slot times fall, although the precise parameters remain subject to testing and client agreement.
Frame Transactions move closer to native account abstraction
Ethlabs ranks EIP-8141 Frame Transactions in its second-highest tier and treats it as its preferred path toward native account abstraction. The proposal allows transaction validation and gas payment to be controlled through EVM code, enabling flexible authentication, sponsored transactions, batching and alternative signature systems.
Frame Transactions now have stronger official standing than most Hegotá candidates because EIP-8081 lists them as “Considered for Inclusion.” Inclusion is still not guaranteed. As crypto.news previously reported, developers are comparing competing account-abstraction designs before settling Hegotás final approach.
Data repricing proposals target higher Ethereum capacity
For continued Layer 1 scaling, Ethlabs placed EIP-8131 and EIP-8279 in its top tier. EIP-8131 proposes a uniform 64-gas floor for user-controlled transaction bytes. Its specification estimates a worst-case content cap of about 0.89 MB at a 60 million gas limit, while fewer than 4% of sampled mainnet transactions would hit the new floor.
EIP-8279 extends similar accounting to Block Access List bytes created during execution. Its authors say combining the two proposals closes bandwidth-accounting gaps that could otherwise constrain future gas-limit increases. Both are still proposed features, not scheduled Hegotá changes.
What happens next for Hegotá
Ethereums official roadmap currently places Hegotá in 2027 after Glamsterdam, while its detailed feature list remains under discussion. Execution client teams are due to submit Hegotá rankings by Sept. 10 as developers decide which proposals deserve implementation and testing resources.
Ethlabs also declined to rank EIP-8363, which proposes changing issuance by burning a rising share of validator rewards as the staking ratio increases. The group argued monetary policy should receive broader community debate rather than being treated as an ordinary technical scoping decision. The proposal itself remains a draft.
