More than half of Ethenas USDe backing is allocated to lending

Ethena‘s USDe, a synthetic dollar targeting $1, has 51.2% of its backing allocated to DeFi and institutional lending, according to risk assessor LlamaRisk’s October 12 assessment. The allocation figure does not measure actual borrower drawdowns or cash available for immediate withdrawal. For holders, usable reserve assets and access to an exit near the peg are separate tests. Eligible counterparties can redeem USDe directly with Ethena, subject to its conditions. Other holders rely on secondary markets for an exit. Withdrawing USDe from sUSDe, its staking vault share, requires a separate unstaking process. A lending position can have excess collateral while supplied stablecoins remain borrowed. Recovering those assets depends on available pool liquidity or the applicable loan agreements recall and redelivery provisions. The global snapshot reports $4.76 billion of backing against 4.76 billion USDe outstanding. Its lending allocations are 36.9% DeFi and 14.3% institutional, alongside 24.9% liquid stablecoins, 17.6% crypto basis and 6.0% real-world assets. LlamaRisk discloses partial Aave DAO funding and its independent Ethena proof-of-reserves attestation role. It says it received no protocol or affiliated-entity compensation for this assessment. The diversification itself predates this snapshot. Ethenas March governance discussions already described lending deployments, and CryptoSlate covered the broader backing shift in August. Ledger Finds LTE Implant That Stole Recovery Phrases in Suspected $86M Drain

In briefLedger said its Donjon security team found an unauthorized hardware implant in a wallet sold by Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. The implant reads the 24-word recovery phrase from the devices screen during setup and transmits it over LTE using a provisioned eSIM.Ledger has not confirmed how many users were affected or how much was lost, and is reviewing reports of implants in other devices and locations. Ledger said its security research team has found an unauthorized hardware implant that captured recovery phrases inside wallets sold by Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis, in a tweet on Tuesday. The Paris-based hardware wallet manufacturer said it confirmed the implant on Saturday in one affected users device. All confirmed losses from the incident, which Ledger disclosed on Friday, involve devices sold through CryptoBilis, and the company said it has not verified a drain linked to a device bought elsewhere. A Ledger device, which the company calls a signer, shows a 24-word recovery phrase during setup. Anyone holding that phrase can restore the wallet and control its funds. According to the analysis by Ledger Donjon, the companys security team, the implant sits inside the devices enclosure and reads what is shown on the screen. When it detects the recovery phrase

Is AI Taking Our Jobs? The IMF Says Young People Should Worry First

The risk of AI taking jobs falls hardest on young people, International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Kristalina Georgieva warned Monday in Bangkok. The routine roles where careers usually begin are vanishing first, she said. Georgieva expects AI to eventually touch about 40% of jobs worldwide. Yet the IMFs own US research shows overall job gains, mostly in lower-paid work. Sponsored Sponsored Why Are Young Workers First in Line? Speaking at the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings, Georgieva compared AI to a tsunami that moves slowly but still hits. The IMF expects around 60% of jobs in advanced economies to feel the impact, against 23% in low-income countries. Poorer nations only look safer because AI has not reached them yet, she said. Meanwhile, IMF research in the US found routine jobs shrinking. Most new positions are lower-paid roles in data centers and services, echoing a warning from Mark Cuban about who benefits. “The people to worry about first and foremost young people that are coming into the labor market. Normally they would get into this routine repetitive jobs and then grow up the ranks but if they‘re gone I don’t think any young person wants to be a barista in a coffee shop…” Kristalina Georgieva, IMF Managing Director, said. Elon Musk: “No Idea How to Make Chips,” But Well Do It Better Than Anyone

Elon Musk admitted he has no idea how to make chips, then predicted his companies would build them better than anyone. Speaking via livestream at Saturdays X Takeover event in Austin, he credited their custom factory equipment. The boast targets one of the hardest industries to enter. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) and its peers have refined their processes for decades and spend tens of billions of dollars a year. Sponsored Sponsored Why Does Musk Think Custom Equipment Wins? “I don‘t know how to make chips, to be clear. I have no idea how to make chips. But we’ll figure it out… I had no idea how to make cars or rockets as well.” Musk said his tours of Intel, Samsung, and TSMC fabs left him impressed. Still, he noticed the machines came mostly from the same vendors, with little customization. Tesla works the other way. It designs much of its own production machinery, including through its Tesla Automation Germany unit. That experience, Musk argued, could let his companies improve how chips are manufactured, according to Bloomberg. “I don‘t want to be complacent or entitled or anything, but, I think probably we’ll figure out how to make chips better than anyone. Honestly. I don‘t know how long it’s going

MediaMarktSaturn pulls Ledger products amid tampering reports

MediaMarktSaturn, the parent company of European electronics retailer MediaMarkt, has removed Ledger products from its stores and online platforms amid reports of tampered hardware wallets. “The MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group has removed all of the manufacturers products from its stores and online platforms and is in contact with the manufacturer,” a spokesperson told Cointelegraph in an email on Tuesday. “We take this incident very seriously.” An X user known as Johannes claimed Monday that he purchased two Ledger wallets from separate MediaMarkt stores. He said both contained unauthorized cables and cellular modules. The security concerns emerged Friday after Ledger said it is investigating reports of losses involving devices sold through Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. Ledger said Tuesday that implants transmitted users recovery phrases over cellular networks and that it was investigating reports beyond CryptoBilis. Separately, former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès said Tuesday that a Ledger Flex purchased at Singapores airport contained a spy implant. Ledger responded by referring users to its latest CryptoBilis investigation update, without directly addressing the Singapore case. Cointelegraph contacted Ledger to ask whether it had confirmed any tampered devices in Europe but received no response by publication time. Felix Ng contributed reporting.
