Laser Digital gets Japans first crypto exchange approval in 4 years

Nomura Group‘s digital asset subsidiary, Laser Digital, received authorization to operate as a crypto asset exchange service provider under Japan’s Payment Services Act (PSA) A list issued by Japan‘s Financial Services Agency (FSA) on Friday showed that Laser Digital received the country’s first crypto exchange license in four years. The last platform to receive FSA authorization was Binance Japan in October 2022. Japans crypto market is entering a “new phase of maturity,” creating a need for “trusted counterparties and infrastructure” as “institutional investors increase their interest in this asset class,” Jez Mohideen, co-founder and CEO of Laser Digital, said in a Friday press release. In July, Japan‘s parliament passed revisions that classify crypto assets as financial assets under Japan’s Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA). The revisions will move regulation of crypto transactions away from the PSA, where digital assets are currently treated primarily as payment instruments, and introduce insider trading rules and stronger oversight for crypto businesses. The crypto provisions will take effect on a date set by Cabinet order within one year of the amendments July 23 promulgation. Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama signaled the intent to bring crypto under the same umbrella as traditional finance assets in January, to ensure that citizens

Standard Chartered wavers on $100K Bitcoin year-end call, says it may be ‘too low’

Bitcoin may move toward its all-time high of $126,000 before the end of the year, with the recovery potentially accelerating after Oct. 6, according to Geoff Kendrick, global head of digital asset research at Standard Chartered. Kendrick said in a Friday note shared with Cointelegraph that the latest rally has been driven largely by short liquidations, while inflows into spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds have also started to recover. He said low open interest could leave room for more investors to return as prices rise. “For the first time this year there is now a risk my end year forecast (of USD100k) is too low,” Kendrick wrote. In a Feb. 12 report, Kendrick cut Standard Chartereds year-end Bitcoin target to $100,000 from $150,000 and its Ether target to $4,000 from $7,500. At the time, he expected Bitcoin to fall to around $50,000 and Ether to $1,400 before recovering during the rest of the year. Other industry watchers have also pointed to signs that the bear market may be nearing an end. Swan Bitcoin CEO Cory Klippsten said Bitcoin may bottom in October, while 10x Research founder Markus Thielen said an August close above $63,000 could confirm a bear-market bottom. Bitcoin traded at $76,844 at the time

Shiba Inu Price Prediction: Can SHIB Hold Key Support?

Shiba Inu is changing hands near $0.00000515, up 2.85% on the day. That‘s a smaller pop than the fireworks earlier this week, but the setup behind it is more interesting than the number itself. What’s driving the token back toward a level it hasnt held cleanly in weeks? The answer traces back to Wednesdays liquidation event. SHIB surged more than 12%, briefly touching $0.00000502, as roughly $3.38 billion in total crypto liquidations swept the market across 192,002 traders, per CoinGlass data cited in market reporting. Shiba Inu: Shytoshi Kusama's Potential X Comeback Sparks Fresh Speculation

Speculation has returned to the Shiba Inu community on a potential X comeback by Shiba Inu lead ambassador Shytoshi Kusama after a long-time community member suggested an announcement could be coming this month. Shiba Inu lead ambassador Shytoshi Kusama continues to stay quiet on social media, with his last communication or interaction on X being May 13, marking more than three months of silence. This also applies to Shiba Inu developer Kaal Dhairya, who has maintained a low presence on X since the start of 2026. Dhairya only commented LFG on Shiba Inus price surge at the close of July. In an X post, long-time Shiba Inu community member Vet Kusama said this might be the month when Shytoshi Kusama and Kaal Dhairya are expected to make an announcement, while asking the crypto community to “stay tuned.” Vets post did not provide specific details about what the potential announcement could involve, with the lack of detail triggering speculation. Importantly, there has been no confirmed announcement from Kusama or Dhairya, with Vets post more likely being community speculation rather than an officially confirmed impending development. Along these lines, Mazrael, a long-time Shiba Inu community member and Shiba Eternity game advisor, responded to an X user who

Japan registers Nomuras Laser Digital as first new crypto entrant in four years

Nomura-backed Laser Digital has become Japans first newly registered crypto asset exchange service provider in about four years, securing approval as the country prepares to move digital assets under a financial-instruments framework. According to Laser Digital, its Japanese subsidiary has completed registration as a crypto asset exchange service provider and will initially supply liquidity to domestic virtual-asset service providers before considering trading services for institutional investors. The company has not disclosed when the institutional offering will launch or the full range of services it intends to provide. The registration, however, gives Laser Digital a regulated route into a market where institutional demand has been rising, according to research conducted by Nomura and the digital-asset firm. A 2026 survey by Nomura and Laser Digital found that 79% of respondents planned to invest in crypto assets within the next three years. Laser Digital said the findings support its decision to build services designed for professional investors in Japan. Laser Digital gains Japan entry after a four-year registration gap The approval follows months of regulatory work by the Nomura subsidiary, which had been preparing to establish a regulated trading operation for institutional clients. In October 2025, crypto.news reported Laser Digital plans to seek a Japanese crypto trading license after
