Vitalik Talks About Cancun Upgrade, Quantum Threats, AI & Crypto, and Social on Farcaster

At the ETHTaipei 2024 conference, Vitalik Buterin participated in interviews with several media outlets, sharing his views on hot topics such as the Cancun upgrade, addressing potential quantum threats, AI s response to media questions: Q: Your activity on Farcaster seems to be higher than on Twitter. Can decentralized social applications like Farcaster really compete with Web2 social applications? Or can they disrupt social patterns? Vitalik Buterin: Yes, I think one interesting aspect of the social space is that it has network effects but also anti-network effects. Twitter is a platform that aggregates various demographics but also tends to attract those who are genuinely annoying. Ive found that Farcaster has accumulated a sufficient number of users and is quite interesting. On this platform, I can engage in higher-quality interactions, although it still needs improvement. I believe that while Twitter may differentiate between high-quality content and users, and low-quality content and users, many criticize these mechanisms, including management and blue check verification, as they could become a centralized tool or privilege serving specific viewpoints and groups. However, the crypto space, including many non-financial applications like Ethereum, fundamentally addresses this issue and attempts to solve trust problems of this nature. Decentralized social networking can truly

Federal Reserve holds interest rates, expects three cuts by end of year

In a largely anticipated move, the Federal Reserve chose to hold interest rates at their existing level on Wednesday following the Federal Open Market Committee two-day policy meeting. Central bankers are calling for three rounds of rate cuts by the end of 2024, projection materials released Wednesday show. The rate hike pause marks the central bank‘s fifth since consecutively raising interest rates from March 2022 to July 2023. Persistent inflation and improving employment data contributed to central bankers’ decision to hold rates, they said. “The Committee judges that the risks to achieving its employment and inflation goals are moving into better balance,” Wednesdays statement read. “The economic outlook is uncertain, and the Committee remains highly attentive to inflation risks.” Longer-term inflation expectations appear to remain “well anchored,” Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday during a press conference. “We believe that our policy rate is likely at its peak for this tightening cycle, and that if the economy evolves broadly as expected, it will likely be appropriate to begin dialing back policy restraint, at some point this year,” Powell said. Stocks inched higher and cryptocurrencies were mixed on the news. Bitcoin (BTC) was relatively flat in the moments after the Fed released its statement at 2 pm ET.

King River Capital, Immutable and Polygon Labs have partnered to launch the Inevitable Games Fund (IGF), which aims to bring additional resources into the Web3 gaming space. The fund wants to be ecosystem agnostic and act as a resource to encourage innovation in the on-chain gaming sector. Its investment process is led by King River Capital, with the assistance of Immutable and Polygon Labs. Only “professional and sophisticated investors” will be able to contribute to the fund, which has a cap size of $100 million. According to Brendan Ma, head of investments at Immutable, the funds first close has reached $30 million, and it has received commitments from investors including Alpha Wave Ventures, Merit Circle and several family offices. A handful of investment opportunities have already been identified by the fund, including decentralized Web3 gaming IP Pixelmon, open-world player versus player arms game Metalcore and role-playing game Guild of Guardians. Co-founder and managing partner at King River Capital Zeb Rice said that video game spending exceeds global revenue from movies, streaming services and the music industry combined. “Just as mobile gaming went from virtually zero in 2008 to 79% of gamers playing mobile today, we believe a similar shift has only just begun [with] Web3

Exploring a New Concept in the Industry—Parallel EVM, Overview of Four Projects

Former Polygon co-founder JD once stated on social media that he anticipates every L2 in 2024 will rebrand themselves and label themselves as “Parallel EVM”. Paradigms CTO Georgios also believes that 2024 will be the “Year of Parallel EVM” and mentioned that exploration and design of related technologies are also underway internally at Paradigm. The Definition and Implementation of Parallel EVM The Parallel EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) is a concept aimed at improving the performance and efficiency of the existing EVM. Currently, the EVM has a crucial feature in its design to maintain network consistency and security: Transactions are executed sequentially. Sequential execution ensures that transactions and smart contracts are executed in a deterministic order, making it easier to manage and predict the state of the blockchain. This design choice prioritizes security and reduces potential complexities and vulnerabilities associated with parallel execution. However, under high loads, it may lead to network congestion and delays. Parallel EVM allows different independent transactions or smart contracts to execute simultaneously, greatly improving the processing speed and system throughput of the EVM. General methods for parallel EVM processing include: Partitioning or sharding: Transactions are partitioned or grouped, allowing them to execute in parallel. This means that different transactions can be executed simultaneously

Solana Meme Slerf Notches $3.2B in Volume After Developer Loses All Presale Funds

Slerf, a sloth-themed meme coin on the Solana network, raised $10 million in a so-called presale and quickly gained popularity even though the developer mistakenly burned the liquidity provider and tokens. The launch of SLERF comes as developers are raising millions of dollars in presales, contributing to a surge in the price Solanas SOL token, which crossed the $200 mark for the first time since November 2021. “This is not a joke I really f****d up and im really sorry. Was a simple mindless misclick when I was in the process of burning the the lp,” the developer said One of the newest tokens emerging from the Solana meme coin presale narrative has chalked up multiple exchange listings, a $3.2 billion trading volume and thousands of unique holders in a few hours after going live – despite a major fumble. Slerf, a sloth-themed meme coin on the Solana network, raised $10 million in a presale on Monday. The token is among several that have emerged as presales – or fundraising sales before the official introduction – in the past few days following the success of Book of Meme (BOME) earlier this month.
