Solana moves closer to 200ms slots after latest speed upgrade

Solana has cut its target slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, increasing the rate at which the network produces slots by nearly 17% without raising its overall processing ceiling by the same amount.　　According to blockchain data, the new setting went live on Sept. 18 and brings Solana to four targeted slots per second, compared with roughly 3.3 under the previous 300ms configuration. The change is the third stage of SIMD-0525, which is designed to gradually reduce slot times from the networks original 400ms setting to a final target of 200ms.　　A slot is the period in which a designated validator can produce a block. Shortening that period gives wallets, exchanges and trading applications more frequent updates on the state of the network.　　Validators continue to serve as leaders for four consecutive slots. S&P Global to acquire blockchain security platform OpenZeppelin

S&P Global is set to acquire the blockchain security company OpenZeppelin, expanding the financial data, ratings and benchmark providers digital asset capabilities.　　The deal announced on Thursday is aimed at complementing S&P Globals risk assessment and ecosystem development capabilities in the digital asset market, it said. Bolivia to tighten crypto oversight as part of IMF backed reforms

Bolivia has committed to developing a regulatory and supervisory framework for cryptocurrencies as part of its economic program with the International Monetary Fund, with the government seeking to limit illicit capital outflows through digital asset markets.　　The Bolivian Ministry of Economy and Public Finance set out the commitment in its Sept. 10 Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies, grouping virtual asset oversight with reforms covering monetary and foreign exchange markets, pension risks and anti money laundering controls.　　The document calls for a “robust” framework for regulating and supervising virtual assets to reduce the risk of improper capital outflows and protect financial resilience. Cardanos IOG warns users after YouTube channel hijack

Input Output Group has warned Cardano users to avoid its YouTube channel on Sept. 18 after an apparent takeover resulted in a suspected AI-manipulated Charles Hoskinson livestream promoting a cryptocurrency giveaway.　　Input Output said through its official X account that users should avoid interacting with the channel “until further notice,” while warning people not to click links, transfer funds or provide personal information through material appearing there.　　The warning came while the channel was carrying a livestream presented as a Project Catalyst town hall. Fake AI crypto software is secretly replacing browser wallet extensions

HP Wolf Security, the companys threat-research team, said a fake AI crypto-trading assistant distributed malware that could replace browser crypto wallet extensions on an infected Windows computer and turn the familiar wallet interface into a credential trap.　　The campaign appeared in HPs September threat report, published Sept. 17 and based on threats observed from April through June 2026.
