TRON Rolls Out NIST‑Standard Post‑Quantum Algorithms on Nile to Prepare for Quantum Computing
TRON activated build GreatVoyage-v4.8.2-PQ1-build1 on its Nile testnet, with support for the Falcon-512 and ML-DSA-44 algorithms. The update covers transaction signing, block production, P2P handshakes and smart contract verification within the TVM.Migration to the mainnet is projected for the third quarter of 2026, subject to approval through on-chain governance. TRONbecame one of the first blockchain networks to actively upgrade its native cryptographic foundations to address the advance of quantum computing. The network announced the deployment of build GreatVoyage-v4.8.2-PQ1-build1on its Niletestnet, a mandatory update for nodes on that network that introduces support for two post-quantum signature schemesstandardized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST): Falcon-512 and ML-DSA-44. The scope of the update is quite considerable. It covers transaction signing, block production signaturesby super representatives, handshakesbetween P2P nodes and signature verification in smart contractswithin the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM). However, the new functionalities do not activate automatically: they require a governance proposal to go through the network committees on-chain processbefore any transition to the mainnet, currently projected for the third quarter of 2026. TRON is taking the next step toward long-term blockchain security. The Nile Testnets post-quantum signature upgrade brings NIST-standardized quantum-resistant signatures to public blockchain infrastructure.
