Metaplanet Fails All 4 VanEck Tests on Treasury Executive Compensation

VanEck rated Metaplanet “Bad” on executive compensation practices, the only company among the 10 largest digital asset treasuries to get that grade. It fails all four of the firms tests. The research note landed on September 18. That grade holds even after Metaplanet cut its executive option pool twice in the past month. What a Digital Asset Treasury Company Is A digital asset treasury company is a public company whose main business is holding crypto on its balance sheet. Metaplanet is a Tokyo-listed one holding 43,000 Bitcoin (BTC). It funds those purchases by issuing new shares, alongside debt and preferred stock. Sponsored Sponsored Metaplanet Bitcoin Holdings. Source: BitcoinTreasuries Issuing new shares means the pie gets cut into more slices. The slice gets smaller. That is dilution. The deal investors accept is straightforward. The company buys enough Bitcoin that each remaining slice is still worth more than before. Where Executive Pay Comes In Companies pay executives partly in stock options. An option is the right to buy company shares later at a fixed price. If the share price rises, that right is worth money. Those options sit in a pool. A pool worth 2% of the company means executives could eventually claim 2% of all shares. The bigger the pool, the more of

'We're So Back?' Dogecoin Cofounder's Cryptic X Message Sparks Crypto Buzz

Dogecoin cofounder Billy Markus, who goes by Shibetoshi Nakamoto on X, caught the attention of the crypto community after he posted “Were So Back?” The timing of the post drew attention because it coincided with a broader market rally, with most cryptocurrencies trading in the green and a handful posting double-digit gains. Bitcoin was up 5% in the last 24 hours while Ethereum traded up nearly 6% in the same time frame. Cryptocurrencies Avalanche, Ethena, Morpho, Filecoin, Injective, and VeChain were posting gains of between 14% and 22%. Dogecoin itself was up nearly 4% in the last 24 hours, trading at $0.088. Market sentiment remains firmly in greed, according to the Crypto Fear and Greed Index, highlighting a shift to a positive mood. Markus post didnt provide additional context, leaving his followers to speculate on what he was referring to. This led to speculation as to whether Markus was commenting on market conditions, Dogecoin, or broader sentiment around digital currencies. That said, his post didnt explicitly mention DOGE, Bitcoin, or any particular cryptocurrency. Are

Ethereum Clears $2,600: Is Ideal Scenario Officially Triggered?

The second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Ethereum ($ETH), held above the psychological $2,600 mark this weekend, confirming its breakout from a prolonged, multi-month sideways trading range. The move was driven by a strong breakout candle closing near its daily highs following a tight consolidation, pushing the asset out of the $1,800–$2,000 corridor, where the coin had stagnated since the summer. For a market weary of uncertainty, this move is a direct signal of a potential global trend reversal. Ethereum clears $2,600, confirming a breakout from its multi-month consolidation base, Source: Aksel Kibar / TechCharts The current price action confirms with pinpoint accuracy the calculations of certified technical analyst Aksel Kibar (CMT, TechCharts). Back in mid-August, at the height of the market lull, the expert predicted this scenario, setting an intermediate target at $2,163. Septembers breakout validated his forecast, but Kibar urges caution and warns that it is too early to celebrate. What could go wrong (actually, everything) According to the analyst, the “ideal scenario” for Ethereum is not about immediately setting new highs, but rather about buyers ability to hold their newly gained ground. The breakout impulse was strong, but the market now desperately needs a “domino effect.” To complete the formation of its multi-month base, Ethereum

Bastion wins conditional OCC approval for national trust bank charter

Stablecoin infrastructure provider Bastion said the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) had granted it preliminary conditional approval for a US trust bank charter. The charter adds federal supervision from the OCC to the state licenses Bastion already holds, according to a news release on Friday. Still, the proposed bank could not accept deposits or make loans, separating it from a conventional commercial bank. Licensed as Bastion Platforms National Trust Company, it will offer stablecoin custody and wallets, payment infrastructure and white-label issuance from a single federally regulated entity. “Stablecoins have moved from emerging technology into core financial infrastructure, and that requires a different standard of trust, governance and regulatory rigor,” said Nassim Eddequiouaq, CEO of Bastion. The company has been building toward federal supervision since acquiring its New York trust charter in February 2025. Cointelegraph reported in September 2025 that Bastion had raised $14.6 million in a funding round led by Coinbase Ventures, with participation by Japanese tech giant Sony, the investment subsidiary of South Korean phone maker Samsung, the crypto arm of venture capital (VC) firm Andreessen Horowitz and crypto VC firm Hashed. Ripple has received conditional approval for a similar charter, while Circle and BitGo have received final approval. Kraken parent

Lemon exits Brazil over crypto licensing costs

Lemon has decided to close its Brazilian operations and terminate about 15,000 local accounts after finding the countrys new crypto licensing capital requirements too costly for its business. Lemon said Brazil‘s new capital requirements were “disproportionate” to the size of its local business, prompting the Argentine crypto app to withdraw rather than finance a licence under the country’s new virtual-asset rules. About 15,000 users still hold balances through Lemons Brazilian operation. The company plans to contact each customer and provide withdrawal assistance before closing the remaining accounts on Oct. 16, 2026. New deposits in Brazilian reais have already been suspended. Lemon Card, a Visa payment card introduced with payments infrastructure provider Pomelo only weeks before the closure decision, will stop processing transactions on Sep. 30. Lemon exits Brazil before the licensing deadline Brazils framework for virtual-asset service providers, locally known as PSAVs, took effect on Feb. 2. Companies covered by the rules face an Oct. 30 deadline for the first stage of the licensing process. Under the framework described by Lemon, providers that continue operating without regulatory approval after the deadline face restrictions on serving the Brazilian market. Compliance would require the company to commit more capital to its local entity. Lemon chose to redirect that money

Bitcoin price rebound faces major test at $83K

Bitcoin price rebounded about 6% over the past 24 hours to trade near $81,300, with a short squeeze and improving technical momentum carrying the price to its highest level in two weeks. Bitcoin price action today Bitcoin (BTC) price traded at approximately $81,330 at the time of writing after reaching an intraday high near $81,741, according to the daily chart. The move extended a sharp recovery from the $75,000–$76,000 area and erased the losses recorded earlier in the week. The cryptocurrency gained roughly 6% over 24 hours, outperforming after a week dominated by tighter monetary policy and uncertainty surrounding U.S. crypto legislation. The rebound accelerated after BTC reclaimed its True Market Mean near $76,660. The move forced traders holding leveraged short positions to buy back Bitcoin as prices moved against them, contributing to more than $250 million in short liquidations over the past day. Forced buying helped BTC clear resistance at $78,000 and $80,000 before testing the low-$81,000 range. Bitcoin-related U.S. stocks also rallied, with Coinbase, Strategy and Robinhood recording strong gains during Friday trading. The price recovery came despite the Federal Reserves first interest-rate increase in three years and the failure of the CLARITY Act in the U.S. Senate. Both developments had weighed on sentiment
