UN: Ad spending tops $1T but AI risk fueling misinformation

Tech UN: Ad spending tops $1T but AI risk fueling misinformation Global advertising spending topped $1 trillion annually, according to the United Nations (UN), but the untapped power of major brands to shape the future of artificial intelligence (AI) could fail to act and deepen global information integrity. In a new brief, the UN, together with the Department of Global Communications and the Conscious Advertising Network, reiterated that unchecked AI adoption in advertising can accelerate risks across the whole digital information ecosystem. The brief, titled “Strengthening Information Integrity: Advertising, Artificial Intelligence and the Global Crisis,” noted that the advertising sector plays a significant role in how information flows online, with its “spending decisions influencing which content is produced, amplified and monetised.” As AI tools become more popular and embedded in content generation and media buying, the risk of spreading false information may increase. “People are increasingly relying on AI to make decisions and shape their understanding of the world without the literacy or information needed to assess its safety and reliability. These dynamics are compounded by the use of AI to create and distribute false and hateful content at scale, contributing to a broader erosion of trust in information sources,” the UN warned. “Advertising may

AUD/JPY Price Forecast: Grinds higher above 113.00, bullish trend holds above key average

In the daily chart, AUD/JPY holds a constructive bullish bias as it sits above the 100-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), keeping the broader uptrend intact. The Relative Strength Index (14) around 53 suggests moderate, non-stretched momentum, hinting that bulls still retain control but lack a strong overbought impulse for an immediate breakout. On the topside, initial resistance is aligned at the Bollinger 20-day middle band near 113.60. The next upside barrier emerges at the May 6 high of 114.32, with the upper band coming in higher at 114.82 as the next hurdle if buyers extend the advance. On the downside, first support is seen at the lower Bollinger band at 112.40, ahead of the April 30 low of 111.33. The key contention level is seen at the 100-day EMA of 109.60, where a deeper pullback would be expected to attract dip-buying interest while the broader bullish structure persists.

WTI consolidates above $93.00 as traders weigh US-Iran peace hopes

Finance WTI consolidates above $93.00 as traders weigh US-Iran peace hopes West Texas Intermediate (WTI) – the benchmark US Crude Oil price – oscillates in a range during the Asian session on Thursday and, for now, seems to have stalled the previous days modest bounce from sub-$87.00 levels, or over a two-week low. The black liquid currently trades just above mid-$92.00s, down nearly 0.65% for the day, amid mixed cues. Investors turned optimistic over a potential agreement to end the Iran war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz after US President Donald Trump said that a deal with Iran was very possible. This, in turn, is seen as a key factor undermining Crude Oil prices, though the downside remains cushioned as investors reassess the likelihood of a peace deal. Adding to this, a broadly weaker US Dollar (USD), which tends to benefit the USD-denominated commodity, contributes to limiting losses for the black liquid. Iran‘s state-linked media pushed back against claims of a broader agreement, while the Iranian Students’ News Agency said that the US proposal includes provisions that Tehran has already rejected in recent days. Furthermore, the BBC reported that Iran is still reviewing the US proposal to end the conflict and lift the

Tech Solana Sees Rising Social Hype, Yet Network Activity Is Falling Data shows social media sentiment around Solana has been rising recently, but network utility has actually followed the opposite path. Solana Active Addresses Have Been On The Decline In a new post on X, analytics firm Santiment has talked about how a couple of key metrics related to Solana have changed recently. First, the Positive/Negative Sentiment compares the bullish and bearish sentiments related to a given asset that are currently present on the major social media platforms. The indicator works by first separating positive and negative comments containing mentions of the asset using a machine-learning model and then taking the ratio of their counts. Back in February, the indicator had plummeted for Solana as a consequence of the price crash. But even then, its value didnt drop below the 1 level, meaning that sentiment never outright turned bearish, at least from the perspective of this metric. From the graph, its visible that the improvement in sentiment was gradual at first, but

Crypto thief gets 78 months as $250M wallet ring collapses

A federal court in Washington, D.C., sentenced Marlon Ferro, 20, of Santa Ana, California, to 78 months in prison over his role in a social engineering group that stole well over $250 million in crypto from U.S. victims. Ferro received 78 months after prosecutors linked him to burglaries targeting high-value crypto hardware wallets. The ring stole over $250 million through fake calls, database hacks, laundering, and residential break-ins.FBI data shows crypto fraud losses topped $11 billion as global enforcement actions keep widening. The Justice Department said the court also ordered three years of supervised release and $2.5 million in restitution. Ferro, also known as “GothFerrari,” pleaded guilty on Oct. 17, 2025, to one count of conspiracy to participate in a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro said Ferro acted as the groups “instrument of last resort,” a phrase that described his alleged role when online tricks failed. Online fraud turned into home break-ins Prosecutors said the group used several roles to find and steal from crypto holders. Those roles included database hacking, target selection, fake calls, laundering, and burglary. White House targets July 4 for Clarity Act passage, says crypto adviser Patrick Witt

The White House is aiming for July 4 for Congress to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, Patrick Witt, executive director of the President‘s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, told CoinDesk’s Consensus Miami conference on Wednesday. “Were targeting July 4th. I think that would be a tremendous birthday present for America, celebrating our 250th,” Witt said. The mechanics, according to Witt, are: Senate Banking Committee markup this month, four working Senate weeks in June for floor passage and enough runway for a U.S. House of Representatives vote before the Independence Day deadline. That timeline runs ahead of the prediction Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand shared on the same stage earlier in the day, when the New York Democrat predicted Clarity would reach the presidents desk by the first week of August. “Theres not a lot of slack left in the rope right now,” Witt said. “But it is an achievable timeline.” The path to markup opened when Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) released a compromise on the bills stablecoin-yield provisions in early May, banning bank-deposit-equivalent yield on stablecoins while leaving room for rewards tied to spending. Witt said the White House convened banks and crypto firms to fashion the language,
