ALPA Moves To Cut Dues As American Pilots Mull Vote On Joining ALPA

The Air Line Pilots Association board on Friday approved a resolution to reduce dues, even as the board of the union representing American Airlines pilots seemed to move towards a vote on whether American pilots should join ALPA. Americans 16,000 pilots are members of the Allied Pilots Association, while ALPA represents about 80,000 pilots at 42 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. For at least four years, American pilots favorable to ALPA have been seeking to move to the larger union. Leadership groups at both unions met separately this week. On Friday, ALPAs executive board approved a resolution to reduce dues to 1.55% from 1.85%. Pending approval from the directors, it would take effect next year. “This change is years in the making, and it reflects exactly the kind of responsibility we owe to our members,” ALPA President Jason Ambrosi said in a letter to members. “Our union continues to have enviable advocacy, negotiations, and safety resources available for our members, and due to responsible financial planning and strong contracts, we are also running a sizable surplus,” Ambrosi wrote, noting that since he took office in 2023, ALPA has returned more than $150 million of dues payments to members. Meanwhile, the APA board on Thursday

One Player Just Won $5M on a World Record Leaderboard - Here’s How Spartans.com Became the Most Loved Casino

Someone just won five million dollars playing at an online casino. Not through a jackpot slot, not through a lottery draw, but by climbing to the top of a structured competitive leaderboard and finishing first. Spartans.com has now paid out its $7,000,000 leaderboard in full, and the player who reached position one walked away with $5,000,000. That number is not a shared prize split across multiple winners. It went to one person. The scale of this outcome is worth understanding properly, because the mechanics behind how it happened are different from most large casino payouts. This was a competition with a clear ranking system, a defined prize structure, and a specific end date. The person who won did not get lucky on a single spin. They accumulated enough wagering activity to reach the top of the board and hold that position when it closed. How the Leaderboard Was Structured The total prize pool was $7,000,000. The top three positions alone accounted for $6,500,000 of that figure. First place received $5,000,000. Positions two and three shared the remaining $1,500,000 of that top-tier allocation. Below that, the prize structure continued down to position 500, meaning a total of five hundred players received a payout by

Hyperliquid whales push selling pressure, but THIS keeps HYPE stable

Although market activity remains relatively subdued, with Hyperliquid [HYPE] down roughly 1% over the past 24 hours and trading around $42.50, broader sentiment still suggests the possibility of continued upside momentum. Whale activity increases pressure on HYPE Whale-driven pressure on HYPE has continued to build over the past few days. The latest wave of selling came from a wallet identified as “Matrixport,” which sold 100,000 HYPE worth approximately $4.21 million during the early hours of the 8th of May. The sell-off followed a previous transaction in which the same wallet also offloaded another 100,000 HYPE, reducing its holdings significantly to roughly 203,290 HYPE. Source: Hypurrscan The broader trend has continued to intensify, with AMBCrypto previously reporting that HyperLab unstaked a large amount of HYPE valued at about $17.34 million on the 7th of May before transferring the tokens to exchanges including and for potential selling activity. Growing pressure from whales and large holders often weakens retail sentiment and triggers broader market uncertainty. However, that has not fully materialized in HYPEs case, as retail demand has remained strong enough to stabilize price action. Retail demand absorbs whale selling Retail traders have continued to show strong buying activity, with Spot netflow data pointing to sustained buyer dominance in the market. Over

IOTA (MIOTA) Enables Starfish Consensus, Targets Scalability

IOTA (MIOTA) has officially deployed its Starfish consensus protocol on the Mainnet, introducing a groundbreaking approach to network reliability and scalability. The v1.21.1 release, which launched on April 28, 2026, upgrades the protocol to version 24 and integrates Starfish, a leaderless Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) system designed to address bottlenecks in Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG)-based consensus mechanisms. At its core, Starfish aims to solve a critical issue in DAG structures: dissemination. Traditional consensus often focuses on validators reaching agreement, but Starfish emphasizes how information is shared efficiently within the network. Without proper synchronization, validators cannot certify data or maintain progress, especially under high load or partial network failures. Starfish addresses this through an innovative mix of “push” and “pull” strategies for data sharing, striking a balance between efficiency and latency. Why Starfish Matters Starfish represents a major step forward for IOTA‘s ambition to power real-world applications, such as global trade and enterprise systems. Unlike traditional blockchain solutions, which often face scalability challenges or high energy consumption, Starfish leverages IOTA’s DAG structure to enable parallel transaction processing and high throughput. One of the protocols key features is its separation of metadata from transaction payloads. Metadata, which contains essential consensus data like references and votes, is

Could XRP Be Pegged to Gold as Part of a New Global Reserve Currency System?

The post Could XRP Be Pegged to Gold as Part of a New Global Reserve Currency System? appeared first on Coinpedia Fintech News Speaking at the close of the XRP Las Vegas event, Jesse from Apex Crypto Insights told host Paul that Ripple is significantly further along than its public statements suggest. Brad Garlinghouse, David Schwartz, and Jack McDonald all spoke at the event. On Ripples Real Bank Count Jesse said Ripple has been connecting banks to RippleNet at a rate of two to three per week for eight years. He believes the actual number of integrations is well beyond what is publicly disclosed. On Garlinghouse‘s 15% Swift market share claim, Jesse said, “I don’t think Brad was saying the full truth there. He was being political.” His basis is Ripples position on the ISO 20022 governance body, the same messaging standard that underpins Swift. Ripple and Stellar are the only blockchain companies on that body. Jesse argues this makes the Swift versus Ripple competition narrative largely fictional. “I dont see Swift and Ripple as competition. I always felt that was just theater.” Why Is the Price Still Low Jesse flagged the question directly. XRP hit over three dollars in 2018 with minimal real integrations. It sits around

Lagarde Says Stablecoins Will Not Strengthen Euro’s Global Role

Lagarde pointed to the 2023 collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, when Circles USDC stablecoin briefly fell below its peg after revealing exposure to the bank, as an example of how quickly confidence can weaken. She said such episodes show how redemption pressures can spill into underlying asset markets and, as stablecoin use grows, create feedback loops between redemptions and prices, particularly where issuers are not banks. Technology function: Stablecoins are not the only solution On the technology side, Lagarde acknowledged the role of stablecoins in cross-jurisdictional financial market infrastructure that is accessible “without relying on a maze of legacy intermediaries.” However, she said that this technological function is not unique to stablecoins. Other forms of tokenized money, including commercial bank deposits or central bank money, could perform the same role within distributed ledger systems, Lagarde said. “The answer […] does not lie in rejecting technology or discouraging stablecoins altogether. Instead, we must build the public infrastructure that will enable alternative instruments, such as stablecoins and other forms of tokenised money, to operate within a framework anchored by central bank money.” Lagarde said the EU response is to facilitate wholesale settlement in central bank money through its Pontes project, which links distributed ledger platforms to the Eurosystems

Trumps UFO file release shifted attention as Iran tensions pushed oil higher and crypto markets sharply lower.Newly released UAP records and Apollo mission files reignited online debate over extraterrestrial activity.Bitcoin and Ethereum fell as investors reacted to Iran conflict fears and rising uncertainty in global markets. The Department of War said the release followed Trumps order to increase transparency around unresolved aerial incidents and extraterrestrial investigations. Officials also confirmed that more declassified material will be released in phases under the governments PURSUE disclosure program. UAP Release Sparks Political And Online Debate The Department of War said the newly released records contain unresolved UAP cases gathered over several decades. However, the administration encouraged independent researchers and private analysts to examine

STRK Price Jumps 50% But Starknet Still Faces Brutal Reality

The post STRK Price Jumps 50% But Starknet Still Faces Brutal Reality appeared first on Coinpedia Fintech News Just when traders had nearly forgotten Starknet existed, STRK price suddenly woke up with a violent 50% intraday move. The trigger? Starknet confirmed that its “strkBTC” vision officially goes live on May 12 after governance proposals SNIP-38 and SNIP-39 received near-unanimous approval. Apparently, wrapping Bitcoin with a federated design and making it stakable on Starknet was enough to jolt a market thats spent months drifting through the crypto graveyard. The rally pushed STRK from roughly $0.040 to $0.061 in a matter of hours. Sounds impressive. And honestly, compared to the painful downtrend holders have suffered since 2024, it probably felt like oxygen returning to the room. Starknet Pushes Quantum-Secure Bitcoin Narrative Hard Well, Starknet isnt just pitching another scaling update. The project is leaning heavily into bringing quantum-secure Bitcoin infrastructure onto Starknet through strkBTC. strkBTC goes live on Starknet May 12! Governance just gave it a near-unanimous green light. Both SNIP-38 and SNIP-39 passed, ratifying the federated BTC wrapper design and strkBTCs eligibility as a stakable asset on Starknet. Meet the Federation supporting it: That storyline clearly grabbed traders‘ attention. But let’s be real, one governance approval doesnt magically erase

Fallon | Bloomberg | Getty Images Dunkin and Buffalo Wild Wings ownerInspire Brands has confidentially filed for an initial public offering, the company announced on Friday. If Inspire goes public, it will be one of the biggest-ever restaurant offerings. Roark is reportedly seeking a valuation of roughly $20 billion. Inspire was founded in 2018 through a merger between Arby‘s and Buffalo Wild Wings, backed by private equity firm Roark Capital. Then came more acquisitions: Sonic Drive-In and Jimmy John’s. And in 2020, Inspire took Dunkin and its sister chain Baskin Robbins private in an $11 billion deal. Across those six chains, Inspire has more than 33,300 restaurants worldwide and $33.4 billion in annual system-wide sales, according to the companys website. Inspire isn‘t the only restaurant company pursuing an IPO. Last month, Jersey Mike’s also announced that it confidentially filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The market for initial public offerings has been tepid, although that could change later this year. Market volatility, economic uncertainty and recent poor performance among IPO stocks has led to a backlog of listings. However,
