Live updates: Bitcoin flat near $63,500; lapsing US-Iran ceasefire revives the oil threat

The US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire with Hormuz shipping frozen, reviving the oil risk The 60-day US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire Monday with no deal and the two sides at an impasse, and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has ground to a near halt. Only five cargo ships passed through the waterway on Saturday and none registered on Sunday, per Kpler data, against 31 the prior weekend. Traffic is down about 90% from before the war began in February, through a strait that normally carries a fifth of the worlds oil. Tehran says it has struck a separate deal with Oman to reopen the strait, but only if the US lifts its naval blockade, per CNBC. The read for crypto runs through oil. A frozen strait and a lapsing ceasefire keep the risk of an oil-price spike alive, and higher crude feeds the inflation pressure that has kept the Fed leaning hawkish and capped bitcoin all summer. Thats the tail risk sitting against the returning-demand case, a supply shock that would firm the dollar and yields at exactly the moment ETF flows are trying to rebuild the trade. Bitcoin held near $63,300 on Monday, still boxed below $64,000.

Blockstream launches swaps service after Boltz suspends operations

Blockstream has launched Blockstream Swaps in beta testing after noncustodial swap provider Boltz suspended its services following months of automated probing and several exploits. Blockstream said in an Aug. 10 announcement that the in-house service is already being tested with select participants, with development now being accelerated after Boltz stopped processing swaps on Aug. 3. The Bitcoin infrastructure company said the product was under development before the shutdown and is intended to add another option for users moving funds between Bitcoin, Lightning and Liquid. Boltz said its suspension followed a steady increase in automated, AI-assisted attempts to probe its infrastructure, along with several exploits that the team said were contained. The company kept its swap services offline because attackers were iterating faster than its developers could identify and patch weaknesses. “Attackers now iterate faster than a team our size can find and patch,” Boltz said in the statement quoted by Blockstream. The swap provider said customer funds were never at risk because its architecture is self-custodial. Refund mechanisms also remained available while normal swap operations were disabled. As crypto.news reported on Aug. 4, Boltz initially restricted swaps involving assets such as USDT, USDC, WBTC, TBTC and RBTC after identifying a bug in its Ethereum Virtual

How to Spot a Fake Crypto Exchange: 12 Warning Signs

A fake crypto exchange is a website or app designed to imitate trading while the operator controls the displayed balances and withdrawals. The dashboard may show profitable trades, customer service may answer quickly, and early withdrawals may work. None of those details proves that real trading occurred. The decisive warning often arrives when the platform demands another payment before releasing the balance. Fraud can also involve a clone of a real exchange. The name, logo and licence number may be copied while the domain, app publisher and deposit wallets belong to criminals. Review all 12 signs before transferring money or identity documents. The relationship began with an unsolicited investment invitation Many fake platforms are introduced through dating apps, social media, messaging groups or a wrong-number conversation. The contact spends days or weeks building trust, then offers to teach crypto trading or shares a supposedly exclusive platform. The FBI describes this pattern as cryptocurrency investment fraud and warns that professional-looking websites can display fabricated returns. A referral from a friendly or romantic contact is not independent evidence. Search the platform separately, and do not use the link or app file that person sends. The domain is new, misspelled or unrelated to the brand Clone sites use extra

Knaken creditors face losses after €2.2M crypto sale

Dutch prosecutors sold the remaining cryptocurrency seized from failed trading platform Knaken for €2.2 million, giving its bankruptcy estate its first known pool of funds for creditor claims. Court appointed trustee Carl Hamm told regional broadcaster Rijnmond that the proceeds were currently the estates only available money. He warned that thousands of customers should limit their expectations of recovering their full balances. The sale followed Knaken‘s bankruptcy on July 16. Prosecutors are conducting a criminal investigation into possible offenses connected with the platform’s finances, while Hamm is separately reviewing its assets, liabilities and management. Knaken customers face a large recovery gap Hamm contacted about 6,300 people who had held positions on Knaken in the recent past. His estimate places the total amount invested through cryptocurrency positions, certificates and customer loans between €10 million and €12 million. The €2.2 million generated from the asset sale would cover only part of that estimate before bankruptcy costs and the treatment of different creditor classes. Hamm has not published a projected recovery percentage or a distribution date. Regulated vs Registered Crypto Exchange: Key Differences

A registered crypto exchange has entered information in a government or regulatory system. A regulated exchange operates under rules and supervision that apply to a named legal entity and specific activities. The terms overlap in everyday marketing, but they are not interchangeable. A basic company record or anti-money-laundering registration does not prove that an authority has approved the exchanges investments, custody or financial condition. The useful question is never simply “Is this exchange registered?” It is: Which company appears in which official database, for what service, in which country, with what current status?Four records that are often confusedRecordWhat it usually establishesWhat it usually does not establishCompany incorporationA legal company was formedFinancial-services permission or active supervisionTax or business registrationThe business entered an administrative systemAuthority to hold customer money or cryptoAML or VASP registrationThe entity has anti-money-laundering obligations within a stated scopePrudential safety, investment approval or deposit insuranceFinancial-services licenceThe entity may conduct named activities under defined conditionsPermission for every affiliate, website, country or product The strength of a record depends on the local law. Crypto Exchange Withdrawal Problems: 8 Actions to Take

A crypto withdrawal can fail at three different stages: before the exchange broadcasts it, while the transaction waits on the blockchain, or after the blockchain confirms it but the receiving service has not credited it. The fastest solution comes from identifying the stage first. Repeatedly submitting new withdrawals—or paying an unknown person to release funds—can make the situation worse. Start by preserving the withdrawal ID, asset, network, amount, address, memo or tag, time and any transaction hash. Do not publish unredacted account screenshots. Then follow the actions below in order.1、Identify the exact withdrawal status Open the exchanges withdrawal history from a verified bookmark or official app. Common statuses include pending approval, processing, completed, rejected, cancelled and awaiting confirmation. The wording varies, but the presence of a transaction ID or hash is the key dividing line. If there is no transaction hash, the exchange probably has not broadcast the transfer. The delay may involve a security hold, identity review, wallet maintenance, liquidity management or an internal processing queue. A block explorer cannot find a transfer that has not been sent. If a transaction hash exists, copy it directly rather than typing it. A legitimate hash is a long string tied to the selected network. Search

Regulated Crypto Exchanges in the US: How to Compare Them

A regulated crypto exchange in the US is not defined by one universal federal licence. A platform may register with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, hold money-transmitter licences in individual states, obtain a New York BitLicense, or operate a derivatives market regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Each status covers different activities, and none by itself guarantees that customer crypto is insured or risk-free. For US residents, the best comparison starts with the exact legal entity and state—not the logo. Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini and other well-known brands do not offer identical products in every state. A platform that can transmit money may still lack authority to offer a particular security, futures contract or interest-bearing product. What “regulated” means for a US crypto exchange US crypto oversight is divided by activity.
