US Is Banning Foreign Robots—Even Roombas

In briefThe FCC added foreign-made advanced robots and connected power inverters to its banned list. The agencys definition of “advanced robotic devices” is so broad it covers vacuum cleaners like Roombas and other common devices. The restrictions apply only to new models seeking FCC approval. Existing products already approved or purchased are not affected. The U.S. government earlier this week announced an import ban on “advanced robotic devices” from foreign countries, with its sights set specifically on China. But its not just humanoids the government wants to stop from entering the United States—the ban extends to robot vacuum cleaners like Roombas too. The Federal Communications Commission has added foreign-made advanced robotic devices, including humanoid and quadruped robots, and connected power inverters to its Covered List after U.S. national security agencies determined the products pose unacceptable security risks. In a press release on Tuesday, the FCC said the move follows findings by a White House-convened interagency group that concluded the products could create supply chain weaknesses and cybersecurity risks affecting critical infrastructure and public safety. “I welcome these Executive Branch national security determinations, and I am pleased that the FCC has now added foreign-produced advanced robotics and power inverters to the FCC‘s Covered List,” FCC Chairman Brendan

High Fed Rates Trigger Crisis Fears: Is the Global Economy Breaking Down? Will Crypto Crash Again?

At 2:00 a.m. Beijing time on July 30, the Federal Reserves interest rate decision was announced: the Fed kept rates unchanged at 3.50%–3.75%, marking the fifth consecutive meeting this year in which it has held rates steady. Starting from July 2023, when the Federal Reserve completed 11 rate hikes and raised interest rates from near-zero levels to 5.25%–5.50%, the Fed has maintained a high-rate environment for 36 months. Historically, during the previous tightening cycle (2004–2006), the Feds peak interest rate level lasted only around 24 months before the 2008 financial crisis erupted. Todays interest rate curve shows striking similarities to the period before the 2008 crisis, as illustrated in the chart below: Federal Reserve Interest Rates Since the 21st Century (Source: Macromicro) Among the 15 major financial crises over the past century, 12 occurred within one year after the Federal Reserve entered a rate-hiking cycle. The current high-interest-rate environment has already lasted 36 months, far exceeding the historical 18-month critical cycle, meaning delayed impacts have been accumulating for a long time. Now, as the “canary in the coal mine” of global financial markets, South Koreas stock market has triggered full-market circuit breakers nine times this year. Here‘s what ’The Odyssey can teach leaders about successful storytelling. Great Storytelling Carries Humanity And Empathy Homer‘s ’The Odyssey‘ is an ancient Greek epic poem detailing the ten-year journey of King Odysseus of Ithaca attempting to return home after the Trojan War. Originally an oral reading, the written style creates a steady, rhythmic flow best suited for memorization, but not known for immediately capturing a modern book reader’s attention. In Nolan‘s rendition, humanity and empathy is brought center stage to the story, instantly capturing and holding the audience’s interest. Odysseus‘ “long-suffering wife Penelope” from the original source material becomes an experience. Movie viewers witness Anne

EUR/USD Forecast: Chair Warsh ambiguity hits the US Dollar

The EUR/USD pair closes July with modest gains near the 1.1500 mark, adding over 1.1% in the last trading week. Price action throughout the month was dull to say the least as investors remained clueless, although the pair managed to hit 1.1530 ahead of the close. The lack of action was compounded by persistent uncertainty, centered on developments in the Middle East and the United States (US) Federal Reserves (Fed ) monetary policy path. Regarding the first, an escalation of the US-Iran war spurred US Dollar (USD) demand at the beginning of the week after continued tit-for-tat attacks around the Strait of Hormuz, which, by the way, is once again closed. Mood improved early in the week amid a pause in attacks and headlines suggesting a fresh round of negotiations. Renewed war headlines, however, were quickly overshadowed by the US Fed monetary policy announcement on Wednesday. The USD plunged after the central bank decided to leave the benchmark rate unchanged, with the split vote leaving it at a range of 3.50%-3.75%. Three regional bank presidents dissented, preferring an immediate 25-basis-point (bps) rate hike: Cleveland‘s Beth Hammack, Minneapolis’s Neel Kashkari, and Dallass Lorie Logan. Speaking during SBI‘s first-quarter earnings presentation, Director Yasuo Nishikawa, who was replacing CEO Yoshitaka Kitao for the presentation, said XRP’s recent weakness appeared to coincide with uncertainty surrounding the U.S. CLARITY Act, the much-talked-about legislation that has so far failed to pass. “As if waiting to see the outcome of the CLARITY Act, XRPs price has been sluggish. Even so, the value of our holdings in Ripple alone stands at 6.6 trillion yen.” Can XRP Overcome Pressure? Zcash (ZEC) Might Bounce to $500, Did Hyperliquid (HYPE) Lose Its Importance?
